Scotch whisky is produced all over Scotland and can be divided into 6 distinct regions, each known for unique characteristics in flavour, smell and look.
Highland single malts vary from rich and sweet in the North, to peaty, maritime flavours on the West Coast. Islands single malts are different in flavour, but the taste of peat and saltiness is often found due to the vicinity to the North Sea. On the other hand, Islay single malts are famous for making the most heavily peated and smoky whiskies.
Speyside single malts are generally sweet and spicy with only a little, or absolutely no peat. Campbeltown and the Lowlands are host to only a few distilleries. Lowland single malts tend to be very light, smooth and sweet. Campbeltown single malts are varied and full of flavours, most known for their dryness.
